So You Want To Be A Hacker? (Introduction to and Advice for a Career In Cybersecurity)

For most people, Hollywood and other pop culture references towards hackers have shaped a view on what the field of cybersecurity entails. However, what does it really mean to be a hacker in the real world and have a career in the field of cybersecurity? This session’s goal is to pull back the curtain in an attempt to remove some of the obstacles that may be preventing individuals from entering the field, including intimidation, knowledge, and a general awareness for the field. The first portion of the session concentrates on a general introduction to the field of security. Then the session touches upon the presenter’s specialization within the field, application security. Finally, the session will conclude with the presenter providing some career advice that he believes will help individuals be successful in the field of cybersecurity, as well as any career path.
